You are meant to be supported through the big events in your life. Birth will change you, that is certain.

I am a DONA certified birth and postpartum doula. I have been certified as a birth doula since 2008 and became certified as a postpartum doula in 2015.  I predominantly support births and postpartum families in south Calgary but also work in other areas and Okotoks. I have experience in all birth settings and vast experience with varying situations. I would be honoured and prepared to support you in birth, however you see it.

I bring experience both professionally and personally to the birthing family.  I began my birth work as a doula, and then became a Registered Nurse working in postpartum and community health.  As a doula I am not working in capacity of a nurse but bring added nursing experience and skills that are complementary to my doula work.

Vivian Birth Postpartum Doula

The doula and the nurse.

During my own 5 births, I recognized that I needed more support than what I had. Lack of the full support I needed impacted me. This sparked a desire to encourage and support women and their families during this special and vulnerable time. I work part time as a postpartum community health nurse. My experience gives me a wealth of insight into different family dynamics and birth situations. I enjoy the aspects of doula work that are different from nursing. Being available to support families in practical ways, physically, psychologically and emotionally in a more connected way.

I am quietly respectful and supportive to your needs but direct and informative where needed. My life experience brings wisdom that calms and comforts the new mother and parent.
