“Being a part of the ebb and flow of birth, how it's so transient. One moment is quiet and the next is fierce with anticipation for the little life being born. It's amazing!”
I am a DONA certified birth doula and a certified lactation educator supporting families since 2009. My region includes (but is not limited to) Calgary, High River, and Okotoks. I support in hospital settings, home births, and the birthing centre. My experience includes unmedicated births, vaginal births after cesarean (VBAC), augmented labours, labours with epidurals, water births, precipitous births, emergent and planned cesareans. I have experience with supporting women with increased medical, emotional and psychological risk factors.
As a young girl it was caring for animals. Whether I was putting a bowl of milk under a tree for that cat I thought was lost and hungry or attempting to mother a baby bird back to health, I was always caring for someone. As I grew older I contemplated a career in veterinary medicine, so as a young woman I thought I had landed my dream job working at a zoo. I befriended a gibbon ape, was witness to an alpaca being born, cared for an orphaned baby deer and prepared meals and fed penguins, kangaroos, emus and spider monkeys. I really enjoyed being with these animals day to day, but as ideals changed to realism my pursuits took a different direction. I spent many years designing landscapes. I won several awards of merit, attempting to mimic an oasis on the chinook prairies. Then one day my husband and I found out we were pregnant and a lot would change. When my first daughter turned two my heart was pulled toward compassionate service again. This time I felt driven by my own experience with birth. I found my path. During each pregnancy and birth that followed I felt full emotional and physical support for myself and my family. Now almost ten years later I still love witnessing birth and being of service, caring for others. I love supporting and encouraging others in their own journey of self discovery. That families invite me into their most vulnerable space is a privilege I am grateful for. I would be honoured to be a part of your birth and breastfeeding journey. Your knowledgable and confident guide.
On my “off” time,
I’m a mother of five wonderful children. I love being outdoors in our vast and beautiful Alberta, gardening and building our backyard oasis, rowing on the Glenmore Reservoir and reading a good book with a giant cup of coffee!
