My approach is calm, without judgement, scholarly and intuitive...
Why I Doula...
Like many birth doulas I am passionate about helping mothers, fathers and babies during this most incredible time in their lives. I am always humbled by birth and by how strong people are. Through my own experiences of birth and through helping people become mothers, I have found something that I feel truly honoured and grateful to be a part of. To be of service to others and to be welcomed to witness mothers and fathers birthing into their roles is truly a remarkable gift. It is amazing to see parents become parents, to witness the awe on a partners face of the strength of a woman and for them to fall in love in an instant. I believe birth matters, to mothers, to fathers and to babies.
My approach in supporting you...
The idea of birth is simple.... it's the journey where we learn so much about ourselves. I know that labor is different for every woman and for every child that she carries. I approach every birth with that in mind and learn from past experiences. Birth is a natural event that most times just works. Women are made to birth babies. I enjoy researching a variety of topics related to labor and birth and also enjoy sharing my knowledge with expectant parents. My approach is calm, without judgement, scholarly and intuitive. Nobody knows how they are going to feel when they are in labor and give birth. Some are lone birthers wanting to just know someone is there if needed. Others need a more nurturing approach, with encouraging words. Some need more hands on, feeling supported with massage or suggestions. I feel strongly as well that birth partners need this same kind of support. It can be an incredibly intense experience and just to have someone in your corner letting you know that you are not alone can make all the difference.
DOULA DO's and DOULA DON'Ts
I will be your physical support, intuitively attending to your needs. Whether it's counter pressure, hip squeezes, massage or warming touch, having that physical support has been shown to reduce tension, fear and pain. I am also keenly aware that your labouring environment is important and I will strive to create a comfortable space for you. I will suggest positions that can help with possible progression and comfort.
I will be your emotional support encouraging you calmly. My continuous presence is reassurance that you will have someone with you always. I will be there to support your desires for your birth and guide you through any doubts or fears. I will offer your birth partner this same support, recognizing that this experience can be intense for them.
I will guide you with informed support helping you weigh your options and helping you understand what's going on. My experience with birth will allow me to normalize things for you as they happen. With experience I can suggest all those techniques that can assist you during labor. My advocacy roll will be to help you in finding the answers to your questions and supporting you in your decisions. I will do my best to facilitate that communication with your birth team.
As your doula I will not perform clinical tasks such as maternal blood pressure, fetal heart rate assessment or cervical checks. I will not give you medical advice. I will not make decisions for you or take over your partners role. As your doula my hands are for supporting you not catching your baby. My scope of practice is clear and allows me to concentrate on you and your birth partners well being and fill in the gaps where your doctors, midwives or nurses simply don't have the time to help with. As a DONA certified doula I strive to uphold a code of ethics and standards of practice with professional integrity.
...a doula could guide us and help us navigate the unknown with confidence...it was the best decision we made!
Warm and compassionate support
"A Doula would round out our birth team and provide a much needed resource and support system so we could focus on the joy of the birth, knowing we had a knowledgeable, confident, informed support person to guide us through the amazing process of child birth. Our Doula gave us comfort in times of uncertainty. The beauty of a Doula is true support. She is knowledgeable in so many areas. The support began months before our due date and continued on until after we brought our beautiful baby home. We wanted a natural birth so we felt a Doula could guide us through that process and help us navigate the unknown with confidence: and it was the best decision we made!"

"I felt I could focus on my wife and our experience without having to worry or stress about medical decisions, issues etc as I had a person/friend to turn to, to look at, to discuss things that came up during the birth without having to stress out my wife, who needed to just focus on birthing our baby. The benefit of another person to ask questions to other than a nurse or a doctor was so comforting. Our Doula was nothing short of miraculous. She was the definition of support and knowledge from the day we met her until our new baby boy was safe in the postpartum room. She even came out to our house again after we were home to make sure everything was o.k.. I would use her again in an instant and recommend her without hesitation. Doulas are worth absolutely every cent and more."
